Is Insulin Resistance Sabotaging Your Weight Loss?

Did you ever start a weight loss program and experience everything but weight loss? Instead of fewer cravings and extra energy, you experienced out-of-control hunger and persistent fatigue. Maybe you even watched as the weight was “melting off” someone you know, while you experienced no weight loss at all. Perhaps you blamed yourself – not doing enough, not enough will power – but  there could be another culprit. It’s called insulin resistance.

Insulin resistance is when your body has to work harder to keep blood glucose levels (sometimes referred to as blood sugar levels) normal. Insulin helps get glucose, the body’s fuel, into your cells to use as energy. When you have inadequate insulin, it can be very difficult for insulin to get glucose into your cells.
Insulin resistance has been linked to obesity and high levels of fat in the blood. It is commonly associated with the development of Type 2 diabetes, along with an increased risk for heart attack and stroke. However, insulin resistance begins long before blood glucose levels are out of the normal range. That is why treating insulin resistance is crucial in the prevention of diabetes and other diseases.
At Draelos Metabolic Center, we specialize both in treating insulin resistance and in helping patients lose weight. The combination of these two efforts is important because we know that insulin resistance impacts weight loss and   weight loss plays a big role in treating insulin resistance.
Losing just 5 to 10 percent of body weight, combined with a healthy diet and moderate physical activity, can have a positive impact on blood glucose levels, insulin resistance, the risk for heart disease and more.
Weight loss can be a daunting task though, especially when other factors impact your success. Draelos Metabolic Center is able to help by offering a full medical evaluation to find out if insulin resistance or other factors are impacting your ability to reach and maintain an ideal body weight.
We have programs that have been developed to directly target insulin resistance by improving cell function. When insulin resistance is identified and addressed, you will feel better, your weight loss efforts will be more successful and you will greatly improve your long-term health and wellness profile.
