Daily Motivation and Behavioral Modification This is a biggie. It can best be summed up with the word: MINDSET. Achieving and maintaining the proper mindset is an essential first step for successful weight loss and weight management. Your mindset includes attitude, motivation, and determination, all of which translate into daily behavior. At The Draelos Metabolic Center, we are truly an Oklahoma health center – a center focused on helping you achieve optimal health and well-being. We work closely with you to help create a roadmap for weight loss success. Maintaining a healthy mindset depends on realistic goals and expectations. We work closely with you, as a client, to make sure your hopes and goals are tempered with realism. Otherwise, you are setting yourself up for failure. Success is often measured in small steps and we help you celebrate each individual accomplishment. Over time, each tiny step adds up to major weight loss successes! In addition to providing you with encouragement during your regular visits, we provide daily tips, thoughts and suggestions to help you stay focused, positive and motivated. We understand that life is hectic and often unpredictable. To lose weight successfully, we will guide you in making positive changes to your busy life and help you identify and defeat the subtle psychological pressures that interfere with achieving and maintaining a healthy weight. 2. Proper NutritionFood is fuel for our bodies. Some of it is healthy fuel and some not so healthy. Unfortunately, proper nutrition is not well taught in our culture. Many myths and inaccuracies about food have taken root and the result is extreme confusion.
3. Regular ExerciseNow, don’t groan! Exercise is important to weight loss, but you do not have to train for a marathon to successfully incorporate it into your weight loss program. Sometimes, simple routine changes, such as parking a block from your destination or taking the stairs instead of the elevator, can have a huge cumulative impact on your overall fitness level. There’s no doubt about it…research clearly shows the benefits of routine exercise are immediate and long lasting. Did you know that a fit person burns more calories than a sedentary person? Being fit increases your metabolism. That means your body burns more calories even when at rest. It also means it better utilizes the calories consumed from a healthy diet plan.Cardio or heart-pumping exercise is only part of the equation, though. We are learning that strength training is equally important, perhaps even more so, when you are losing weight. That’s because it helps you maintain or even increase your lean muscle mass. More muscle means a higher metabolism. This is because muscle tissue requires calories to exist and function, while fat tissue does not. So even when you are sleeping, your muscle mass is burning calories, but your fat tissue is just taking up space. This is also why men tend to have a higher metabolism than women; they simply have more muscle mass. So ladies, guys really do have an edge over you when it comes to weight loss. At the Draelos Metabolic Center, we work with you to figure out ways to boost the amount of exercise you're getting through your routine daily activities. If possible, we also strongly encourage you to begin working out as part of a well-organized, medically-supervised, weight loss program. What activities do you enjoy? We’ll work to help you discover your own favorite forms of physical activity so you will be more likely to make exercise an enjoyable part of your daily life and an ally in your quest to a leaner, healthier you! 4. Medications
Not everyone needs weight loss medications, but some people benefit from adding appetite suppressants or other pharmaceuticals to their weight loss plan. |
