Metabolic Testing

Do you ever feel like EVERYTHING  you do to lose weight is just not working? Even though it is working for your friends? Do you just look at a piece of chocolate cake and gain weight? Then Draelos Metabolic Center has what you need! By doing a metabolism evaluation, you will see how YOUR metabolism works!

What is Metabolic Testing?

The Metabolic Indirect Calorimetry test uses the air that you exhale (breathe out) to determine your body's rate of energy metabolism and your caloric needs when you are at rest. It also tells you how your metabolism compares to a typical person of similar sex, age, height, and weight.

Why do Metabolic Testing?

Caloric recommendations for weight loss are calculated estimates based on the average metabolic rate for your sex, age, height, and weight. Metabolic testing provides you with a measured resting energy expenditure, not an estimate. You can use these personalized caloric recommendations to  guide you in obtaining your health goals.

What to Expect

  • Your body composition will be measured using a special body composition scale
  • Your metabolic rate will be measured while you relax and breathe into a mouth piece for up to 20 minutes.
  • You will immediately receive printed results and an explanation of how to use your results.
  • Cost for Indirect Calorimetry metabolism test is only $50.

Success With Sense

weight-scaleA SenseWear User Success Story

Dean Manning has gained control of his diabetes, but in January of 2011 he hit a plateau in weight loss.
Although Dean was working with a personal trainer and seemed to do everything right, the pounds on the scale were just not budging.
A provider at Draelos Metabolic Center challenged Dean to try SenseWear, an armband that is worn for 7 days during daily activities and sleep, and allows a simple, hassle-free way to take a short-term peek at your metabolism.

After wearing the armband, Dean found the information quite helpful. The system analyzes information such as total calories burned, number of steps taken, duration and levels of activity performed and hours of sleep. He then purchased the BodyMedia Fit Weight Management System, so he could have the data SenseWear provided at his finger tips on a daily basis.

Indirect Calorimetry Weight Loss Tool Measures Metabolism

When the number of pounds increases as a person ages, many cite a slow or faulty metabolism, an anatomical engine that may need a tune up to run better. Yet, most have only a vague concept of how metabolism works and how it impacts your weight.

Matt Draelos demonstrates Indirect Calorimetry

The truth of the matter is metabolism can be the culprit and also the remedy when it comes to achieving and maintaining one’s goal weight. Now, a new test helps physicians and individuals get a look at how well their metabolism is functioning, important information when trying to lose weight.

Metabolism actually is the term that describes the chemical reactions in the cells of your body that convert food to the energy needed to think, to move and to grow. It is an essential component of every living organism. It is also a fairly complicated balancing act inside the body between the process of building up body tissues and energy stores (fat) and breaking them down to provide the fuel the body needs to function.

Metabolism may be adversely affected by yo-yo dieting and poor diet habits. When you lose weight and then gain it back, the pounds you regain are not always the same as the pounds lost. It’s possible to lose muscle and then regain it back as fat. When this happens, it is often more difficult to lose those same pounds the next time around.” said Dr. Mathew Draelos of the Draelos Metabolic Center in Edmond. Draelos is a physician board certified in metabolism, endocrinology and diabetes.
